Other Household Items

Some items cannot go in any of the standard kerbside sacks but should not be thrown in general waste if possible.

Batteries

Do not put batteries in black or recycling sacks as they cause fires. Take them to supermarket battery bins or the recycling centre.

Textiles

Clothes and shoes should be taken to textile banks or local charity shops. Do not put them in the blue sack.

Small Electricals

Broken toasters, kettles, etc., should be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre (The Tip) on Coxtie Green Road.

Common Recycling Questions

Can shredded paper go in the blue sack?

No. Shredded paper is too small for the recycling machinery and should go in your black sack.

Can I put glass in the white sack?

No. All glass must go in the red box. Glass in sacks is dangerous for collection crews.

Can foil pouches go in the white sack?

No. Foil pouches (like pet food pouches) cannot be recycled at the kerbside and should go in the black sack.

Can plastic bags be recycled?

Soft plastic bags and film cannot be placed in the white sack and should go in the black sack or taken to supermarket soft plastic collection points.

Presentation Rules

Put your sacks or bins out by 7.30 am on your collection day. Ensure sacks are tied securely and clearly visible from the road. Using the wrong sack colour or putting out contaminated recycling may result in missed collection.
